Fleur de Lis Pizza is a Baton Rouge institution! Ask any long-time resident or any LSU alumnus, “who makes the best pizza in town?” and you’ll hear one of two answers – Pastime Pizza or Fleur de Lis Pizza.

The building, with its hot-pink art-deco façade, dates from the 1940s. In those days it was “out in the country;” now it’s in the heart of the “Mid-City.”

It was once a service station and grocery, with several “tourist cabins” on the back of the property. In 1947, it became Fleur de Lis Pizza and has barely changed – inside, outside or flavor-wise - since then. It’s been in the same family for more than 50 years, now operated by grandchildren of the original owners.

Fleur de Lis serves Roman style, rectangular, pizza pie, made with all-homemade sauces and crusts and quality toppings. I can testify that it’s all good!

Exit I-110 at Government St. and head away from the river. Go about 3 miles and keep an eye out for the hot-pink building on your left. Park in the rear. Are those small buildings ghosts of the erstwhile “tourist cabins”? Under the northeast corner of the largest building you’ll find your hot-pink lily. Be careful - there is always a crowd!

If you want Roman Pizza Pie, they are open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Happy hunting!
