Trail difficulty: fairly easy, a flat dirt road that goes slightly uphill
Walk distance: about 0.15 mile one way
Stamp hand-carved.
Status: alive and well on September 4, 2016
This letterbox is placed directly on the Continental Divide, just on the Idaho side of it. Take U. S. Highway 20 from either Island Park, ID, or West Yellowstone, MT, to the Idaho-Montana State line (Targhee Pass - Continental Divide). Park on the north side of the highway at the east end of the pullout which is just east of the Welcome to Idaho state sign.
Walk up the dirt road that goes north for a very short distance then turns to the west. The CDT follows this road in this area. Continue
walking on this dirt road passing on your left the Welcome to Idaho sign down slope on the highway. Continue walking as the road
curves gently to the right (north). Before reaching the Valley View Trail sign on the right, look to the left downhill and you will see a wooden post with a light grey metal rectangle sign on it. Go to it -- it is about 40 steps from the road. Behind the post you will see 2 large
evergreen trees. The box is behind the larger tree on the right. It is under the southwest edge of the tree under 2 rocks covered with plant
debris.
Please please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag) and put all of it INSIDE the box. Please rehide the box well under the rocks and covered with some plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.
