From 1908 to 1953 the Vineyard Ice Company operated an ice-harvesting business in this freshwater pond, complete with gantries and conveyor belts and storehouses. Its industrial era now behind it, this kettle pond and its surrounding woodlands are today quiet and scenic.

To find your way to Martha's Vineyard Landbank Commission's Manaquayak Preserve:
Begin at the intersection of the State Road and upper Lambert's Cove Road. Proceed up Lambert's Cove Road 1.2 miles and turn right onto Manaquayak Road. Stay on Manaquayak Road 0.5 miles and turn right onto Wintergreen Lane; the land bank driveway is on the left at the bottom of the hill. Parking and access are limited (four spaces) and visitors may have to be turned away if the lot is full.

Follow the trail from its head at the back of the parking lot up the hill to the Woodland Trail Loop. On your way, take a moment to enjoy a view of Ice House Pond from the bench to the left of the trail or walk down the "rustic stair" to see the water up close. Follow the Woodland Trail Loop to the right, following the orange MV Landbank trail blazes. Turn right when you reach the sign marked "Walking Path, Lamberts Cove Rd 1/2 mile." Follow the trail fro approximately 25 paces. On your right you will find a hollow tree stump approximately 4-5 in in diameter. The box is in a silver duct tape planter's pouch inside the stump. On your return trip, pass the entrance to the "Walking Path" and follow the Loop Trail as it circles back with views of the pond on your right. We recommend you walk single file at this point and keep to the center of the path as some nasty prickers border the path on both sides and are particulary tenacious during the summer months.

There is NO INK/No PEN in this box, please bring you own!
