Title: The Tradewinds Disc Golf Letterbox

Location: State: FL County: Broward Town: Coconut Creek

Planted by: Tweety and Mr. Coon ( Rehoboth, MA ) Date: 1/16/04

Difficulty: Easy, a stroll of several hundred feet from the parking area in sight of your car.
.
Background:
We discovered this park while we were looking on the map for Treetops Park (for other letterboxing reasons). Not far away we visited a casino and a flea market, so its convenient if you want to combine wholesome outdoor activity with (unwholesome?) indoor activities on an iffy weather day as we did, especially since the box is practically a drive-by. There is butterfly exhibit located in the park.

Driving directions:
Tradewinds Park is bisected into north and south sections by Sample Road which is exit 39 from I- 95 near Pompano Beach. The park is a short ways west of I-95. The Florida Turnpike runs alongside the eastern edge of the park.

Directions to the box:
Follow the main road through the south end of the park past the Butterfly World display and park in the lot near the Fritillary shelter. Cross the street ( west of the restrooms) and follow the paved path past the tenth “hole”. Just after the path turns right past the fishing spot look for a great example of a clump of trees and strangler figs on your right about four feet from the path. The letterbox (a three inch cube, painted brown) is tucked into a notch at the base of the clump under debris. The notch runs parallel to the path.
Thanks to Deb Bee and Amy and Ricardo for their efforts to rescue this box.
