Joseph "Jo" Abbott was born on January 15, 1940 in Alabama but his family moved to Texas in 1853. During the Civil War he served as a first lieutenant in the Twelfth Regiment of the Texas Cavalry. He later studied law and pursued his legal career in Hillsboro where he became a member of the Texas House of Representatives in 1870 and 1871. In 1880 he was elected as a District Judge and in 1886 he was elected as a Democrat to the United States House of Representatives. He died on February 11, 1908 and is buried in Hillsboro City Cemetery, where this box can be found.

Directions:
Go north on N Waco St (US 81) and park by Hillsboro City Cemetery on right.

Clues:
Walk through entrance and stay on main path until even with stone gazebo on right. Go left 32 steps to back side of Jo Abbott grave on right. From grave, go 22 steps at 75 degrees to medium multi-trunk cedar tree. LB is in crotch 2' high under a rock and needles.
