The Balcones Canyonlands Preserve in western Travis County provides habitat for a number of rare and endangered plant and animal species found nowhere else. It is managed by several partners who have acquired a total of over 31,780 acres since 1996, making it one of the nation’s largest urban preserves. Much of it is open to the public for hiking except between March 1 and July 31, and this box can be found on a trail that I think connects with St. Edwards Park starting from Bull Creek Preserve.

Directions:
From Hwy 360 go northwest on RM 2222 for 0.9 mile, right on Jester Blvd for 2 miles, right on Gutherie Dr for 0.2 mile, then left on Aralia Dr to small lot at end on left.

Clues:
Walk left from end of road through hiker gate into the Preserve and go to Y jct. Go right, bending right at a fence, to trail post by a chain-link gate where trail bends right. From post continue on trail 25 steps, then go right off trail 20 steps to large multi-trunk cedar tree. LB is within trunks under rocks and needles.

Hike length: 1 mile
