The Goodwater Trail is a 26-mile loop around Lake Georgetown that weaves through cedar stands and cactus-strewn fields of limestone while passing waterfalls, natural springs and historic ruins. It also connects to the San Gabriel River Trail, a 6.6-mile combination of crushed stone, concrete and city streets that connect the lake to San Gabriel Park in Georgetown. Both are open to biking and hiking and this series of 3 boxes will allow you to sample part of the trail from Cedar Breaks Park. The last box contains the only logbook.

Directions:
From I35 go west on Hwy 29 about 1 mile, turn right on D.B. Wood Rd for about 2 miles, then go left on Cedar Breaks Rd to Cedar Breaks Park entrance station on left. Tell them you are just hiking the Goodwater Trail and there will be no charge. Get map and park in first lot on left by trailhead.

Box 1: Cedar Breaks
Walk west on Goodwater Trail about 100 yards to jct and go right on smaller trail 40 steps. Go right off trail 8 steps to weird-shaped cedar tree. LB is within trunks on back side 3' high under a rock and needles.

Box 2: Booty's Crossing
Go back to main trail and continue on it to stone marker where trail bends left with view of Lake Georgetown. This is near where Booty's Crossing used to be before the Lake covered it. Go right 7 steps to remnants of bench, then go behind it 13 steps to uprooted cedar tree. Look behind root ball for LB in hole of a rock under another rock.

Box 3: Knight Springs
Continue on trail along Lake past 1 and 2 mile markers to sign for Crockett Garden Falls on right across from old ruins. Continue straight along fence to stream above falls flowing across the trail. Use rocks in stream to arrive at Crockett Garden, a small oasis formed by Knight Springs. Facing the sign describing Crockett Garden, go right 30 steps to large tree leaning toward you. LB with logbook is at back base under a rock and leaves. On your way back, be sure to go left at Crockett Garden Falls sign to see a nice view of the falls.

Hike length: 3-5 miles
