From 1817 - 1821, David Crockett operated a grist and powder mill here. He had settled here and owned over 600 acres. After a flood destroyed his mill in 1821, Crockett moved his family to West Tennessee. The mill stones were found near here in the creek. Strange to think that he walked these very hills 200 years ago! Now for the clues!
Follow the road to Crockett Falls, park in the loop.
Take the trail blazed Green to the right.
Trees grow there to a towering height!
Up, up, up, count 48.
Don't be surprised if you are in a breathless state!
Look for the post, marked "35"
Under the red, rotten log you must dive.
Crockett's Coon is a bandit indeed!
Hiding in day or night, be sure to cover when you leave!
