Terrain Difficulty: Easy (slight slope, 2.4 km RT)
Recommended Ink: blue
Status: alive
The Australian box jellyfish, with tentacles covered in tiny poisonous darts, is considered the most venomous marine animal in the world, and anyone injected with this poison may experience paralysis, cardiac arrest, and even death within minutes. They are found mainly in waters off northern Australia, so swimming there requires caution, but finding this box is quite safe. It is located on the Cape Byron Walking Track, the easternmost point of the mainland of Australia.
Directions:
Drive northeast on Lighthouse Rd then left on Brooke Drive to parking lot for Palm Valley and park.
Clues:
Walk on trail toward most easterly point & lighthouse, continue on road past Wategos Beach, then left up stairs to just before easterly point. Look right for bench at a sign saying "Rich With Life" and walk behind far side of bench 3 steps to gnarled tree. LB is at back base under a rock, sticks & leaves. Please be discreet and replace as described, then continue up to easterly point and the lighthouse for scenic views. Look for dolphins jumping on the way to the lighthouse.
Hike length: 1-2 miles
Recommended Ink: blue
