Easy drive-by

This paved bike/walking trail follows Coal Creek for 1.5 miles, from the edge of town, into Cedar Canyon. A pioneer found some coal left along the creek, which resulted in its name. Beginning in the 1850's, two flour mills and a plaster mill have operated along the creek; though only ruin evidence remains today.

To get to the Cedar Canyon Walking Trail area from I-15, take the Cedar City exit #59 and go east on 200 N. to Main St. Turn south (right)on Main St. and turn east (left) on Center St. Follow Center St. (it turns into Hwy 14) for 1.5 miles to the Coal Creek Parking Area. On the way you'll pass Canyon Park, which is the beginning of the trail. You can park here and take 1.5 mile the walk to the other end, where the box is, or drive to that end. While driving to the other end you'll see a bridge over the creek, on the right side of the road. Just beyond that is the sign for the parking area.

The trail from the parking area leads to the bridge. There is a fork in the path just west of the bridge. Take the southern most path; it's a little bit further east of the bridge. There is a row of boulders (bordering an access road) and off the south side of the path. The box is under the 4th boulder up (it is the largest boulder there too). It is located under the boulder edge among other small rocks.

PLEASE be discreet and be sure to rehide well with the loose rocks, and pushing it as far under as possible, so it's not too obvious to curious folks.
