On a leisurely paddle down the Swift River, you will encounter a hidden gem. Hidden in the rushes on the bank of the river is a small statue paying homage to Saint Fiacre, the patron saint of gardening.

Starting at the Belchertown boat launch, you will head downstream towards the dam. Casually paddling, it will take approximately one hour to reach the statue. You will pass many little alcoves at which you can stop for a picnic, should you so choose.

Near the far end of the river, you will see a string of blue buoys denoting a "do not pass" zone.... there's a pretty steep waterfall beyond the buoys (do not recommend).

At this point you will begin your return trip. Roughly five minutes into your return you will see a thin peninsula directly in front of you. On this peninsula (and clearly visible) you will see the well worn concrete statue honoring Saint Fiacre, the patron saint of gardening.

Disembark on the tip of the peninsula and stand next to St. Fiacre facing the same direction (looking back toward the river). On your right, at the water's edge, you will see a thicket. Hidden in the middle of this thicket, you will find the Saint on the Swift letterbox.

Enjoy the rest of your day on the river and don't forget to update on Atlasquest.com and/or Letterboxing.org.
