History:
The beach was donated by oil tycoon Edward L. Doheny for public use on May 31, 1931. It was California's first state beach. On July 1, 1963 the beach was named Doheny State Beach in his honor. The original donation was 41 acres (17 ha). An additional 21 acres (8.5 ha) was later added by acquisitions from the Santa Fe Railroad, University of California Regents, and the Union Oil Company.[3] An additional 192 acres (78 ha) not owned by the state are included in the site's official total area.[4]

Clues to find the box:

1. Park across the street from Sunsets Bar & Grill in capistrano beach. (Park on the street for free parking) their address is 34700 Pacific Coast Highway, Capistrano Beach.
2. Walk over the steps overpass and turn left at the bottom (walk south bound)
3.. Keep walking until you reach the yellow pillars by the 1st telephone pole (about 150 yards from the walk over)
4. Inside the yellow pillars, walk to the large rocks in that are in shape of a horse shoe.
5. Stand parallel to the south coast water district sign with the blue writing on it.
6. Walk 8 steps towards the ocean.
7. Box is between the two leaning rocks in the crevice.
8. You may need to move 1 or 2 smaller rocks out of the way to find the box.

***When finished, PLEASE put the box back in its hidden location and put back the rocks-- thanks! ***
