SOUTH SHORE SERIES
Number of boxes: 3
Time Estimate: 90 - 120 minutes
Nearest City: Metropolitan Milwaukee
Terrain: This box has one steep climb. This box is not suitable for unsupervised children. This box is winter friendly except during periods of icing.
Reminder: Please be discreet when finding and rehiding these boxes as the area is high traffic during the warmer months.
Note: One box is a microbox. Do not expect a large container.
Checked: The boxes were confirmed missing on 11/13/2005. The status has been changed on the LBNA site to repair. We will return the boxes to active status when we have replaced them.

This series is placed in the lakeshore parks just south of the Port of Milwaukee in Milwaukee, WI. Begin your quest at 3257 South Lake Drive. Park in the guest parking lot at the end of the tree lined driveway. Walk toward the main building located at the east end of the parking lot. Follow the road to the left of Henni Hall. Locate the red Traverse City Iron Works pole near the side of the road and record the four digit number located near the top of the pole ( A = ______ ) . Continue walking down the driveway toward Lake Michigan. Carefully cross the road and enter Bay View Park on the asphalt path directly opposite the driveway. Turn right at the T-intersection and walk to a bench located near the second group of evergreen trees on the right of the trail. This is a nice bench to sit and admire the view of Lake Michigan during any season of the year. In the summer you will likely see yachts leaving the harbor while the winter view will reveal icy waves crashing over the breakwater wall. Just past the bench you will see another asphalt path going down the hill to the beach. Take this path to the bottom. At the bottom of the hill, the downtown skyline will be drawn nicely on the horizon. This is one of the best views of the city! Continue walking along the beach or on the forest-edge trail toward the skyline. You will pass a folded tree near the shore and a well-constructed stairway. Beach walkers should join the forest-edge path at the stairway. From the stairway, continue toward the skyline. You will pass many small trees on the right but eventually arrive at a larger, multi-trunked tree. Another multi-trunked partner stands just beyond. Turn around to face the direction from which you came. Multiply the last two numbers in ( A ) and walk that many paces. Climb up to a three-pronged tree at 250 degrees. You will find the first box nestled where the tree grew up in three directions. Stamp up, replace the box, and be sure to hide it well! This area is heavily trafficked at all times of the year. Return to the bottom of the hill to start your search for the second box. (WINTER WARNING: the climb to this box can be dangerous under heavy snow or ice. Exercise extreme caution when returning to the bottom of the hill). At the bottom of the hill, turn away from the downtown skyline and walk back to the well-constructed stairway. Climb up to the top and turn right. Stay on the path or city streets with Lake Michigan to your right. Follow the Oak Leaf Trail signs. Walk to the intersection of Meredith and South Shore Drive. Another path will lead down to the beach. A wood fence lines the right side of this path. The path joins a service road at the beach. You should notice a playground above you. You will return to this playground to start the search for box 3. But first, on to box 2! Subtract the last digit of ( A ) from the number formed by the first three digits of ( A ) and record this number as (B: _____ ) Subtract 50 from ( B ) and walk in that direction. You will pass through a tree graveyard and reach a parking lot at an unexpected building. Read the warning signs behind the building’s fence! Yikes! Don’t stand here too long; you might be washed away! Continue through the parking lot to the lakeside trail located just on the other side of the building. You will see concrete cylinders forming piers into the lake. Walk to the third pier along the trail. If you think you’re right, count again! The prize you seek is nestled at chest level up the trunk of a large old tree. Stamp up, replace the box, hide it well with bark or twigs, and return to the playground. The third box is found in the direction of downtown. Head past the playground on the lakeside trail. Make your way to Cupertino Park. Find the grated circle and pick it up! Just kidding! Record the weight in pounds. (C: ______ ). Walk round and round the circle. This is a weird thing, isn’t it!? Exit the circle on the path and return to an intersection. Turn away from downtown and walk the number of paces suggested by ( C ) if all the zeroes are removed. You will be near a tree. At the tree, take a bearing of ( B ) degrees. The microbox is under a rock in the “V” of the tree halfway up the hill. Again, be careful stamping up as this area is heavily trafficked at all times of the year. Replace the box, hide it well, and retrace your steps to your car.
