Walking distance: about 0.5 mile loop
Trail difficulty: easy, flat dirt trail

The answers to the questions in the clues for this webbox are located in the North Cascades National Park Complex in far north central Washington. Letterboxes are not allowed to be physically placed in national parks and monuments and other sites administered by the U. S. National Park Service. So, I have created this webbox. You must actually visit the area of the clues; however, you need to go to the Web to obtain your finders stamp.

Go to the North Cascades National Park Complex on State Highway 20. Turn south on the road to the North Cascades National Park Visitor Center (and the Newhalem Creek Campground). Cross the Skagit River bridge then park along the side of the road

Across from the Camper building find the information sign “Newhalem Area Trails”. See on the sign section 3 titled in green “To Know a Tree Nature Trail” In the paragraph (starts with the words “A gentle forested …”), in the 2nd line, what is the 4th word _____?

Now, walk into the To Know a Tree Nature Trail, turn right at the metal interpretive sign “To Know a Tree”. Continue on the trail, walking along the Skagit River. At a trail junction, stay right passing campsite 21 on your right. Find the metal interpretive sign titled “Vine Maple”. In the paragraph (starts with the words “This tough, viny …”), in the 4th line, what is the 1st word _____?

Continue along the trail. At the next junction bear left to stay on the loop (or you can go right to start the River Loop trail). Continuing on the Tree trail, stay left at the next junction (restroom on right, uphill). Continue on loop, after passing site #20 turn right to return to the beginning.

To create the mystery word, put the word from the second question on the end of the word from the first question (without spaces). Paste the mystery word (all letters lower case) into this URL (replacing the question marks “???” with the mystery word):

http://nostalgia.esmartkid.com/???.html

Now, plug/paste/type the new URL into your web browser and you will have completed your search for the North Cascades Park Webbox.

Please record your find at www.letterboxing.org/ .
