Murrysville is about 10 miles East of Pittsburgh. The main road through Murrysville is Route 22 (William Penn Hwy.) Follow the sign to the Library and the Community Building. This will bring you on Sardis Road. After several miles you will pass the Library and the Community Building on your left. Keep going on Sardis Road. About one mile further make a left onto Twin Oaks Dr. (there is also a small sign indicating Townsend Park, which is the hiding place of the letterbox). From Twin Oaks Dr. make a left onto Townsend Park Dr., which will bring you directly into the center of TOWNSEND PARK.

(Alternatively, if you come from North, you can choose the north entrance of Sardis Road, which comes off from Route 286 and is a little bit East of the intersection of Routes 380 and 286. In this case follow Sardis Road to the South, make a right onto Twin Oaks Drive and again a right onto Townsend Park Dr.)

When you arrive at the parking lot of Townsend Park, bear left and follow the sign to the ballfields. Park at the parking lot between the two ballfields.

Finally :) ... get out of the car and follow the fence of the upper (bigger) ballfield to its very (Western) end. There is also a big sign with the number "307" on the ballfield fence. From there follow the wide pipeline clearance further West. Before you cross a wooden bridge turn right and climb up the small hill in front of you. Shortly before your feet get wet, stop, turn right and find the two wooden benches on a hill in the distance (about 150 yards).Walk up to the benches and once there, turn left and follow the small stone wall. Cross a wider trail and follow a hiking trail straight ahead of you. Memorize its name, as you need to stay on it (several other trails will split off from your trail) until you come to a tree in the middle of your trail, which's bark has been removed on its left side. A trail will split to the left at this point. Don't take this trail, but the next one going off to the left. Although you´re already deep in the woods, make sure, you keep an eye on the trees after your left turn. When you leave the mixed forest and are about to enter the conifer woods, start to look to your right!
After a few paces and about 25 yards from the trail is a small mound of soil in a lighter shade than the soil anywhere else in this place. You will see a "horizontal" tree in connection with this mound. This tree points towards another half fallen tree of about the same size. At the roots of this second tree under some roots you will find the letterbox.

Continue on the trail to its very end. Another small trail is crisscrossing yours, so at each intersection keep going straight ahead. Be on the look-out for the owl population in this part of the park. At the end of the trail turn left and keep following this trail until you come to a manmdae structure. Keep going straight ahead and you will see a wooden fence. Follow the trail to the left of this fence and it will bring you back to your car.

This is an easy to moderate walk and will take about 40 minutes. Due to the nature of the hints (follow the wall etc.) that were made with the help of kids, we think that especially youngsters might enjoy this walk, as they will be able to identify all the necessary treasure hunting hints without the permanently slowing task of sounding out :))
