Buckeye Furnace State Memorial

Buckeye Furnace is a reconstructed charcoal-fired iron blast furnace with original stack, typical of those operating in southeastern Ohio's Hanging Rock Iron Region more than a century ago.

Directions: To get there, take State Route #32 to the intersection near Wellston where State Route #124 separates from State Route #32. Take State Route #124 east about 4 miles and look for the brown and white sign pointing to the Buckeye Furnace State Memorial 3 miles down Buckeye Furnace Road. Follow the signs to the memorial.
Clues:Park at the picnic area. Make your way over to the Buckeye Furnace Office & Store and take the old road from there up the hill to the top. Find the information marker for the Stock Shed. After you readthe info. take a compass reading of 120 degrees. Walk 9 paces (1 pace is 2 steps) a Sycamore thatis hollow at the base. Look inside.
