3/28/13 Visited this letterbox box today and it is in excellent shape - I forgot that it was an UPHILL hike and it was a little tough coming down with the wet leaves.
Moderate hike - just over 1/2 mile round trip
Directions: Take Route 7 north out of the center of New Milford for about 5 miles passing Rt. 37 and a gas station on your left. The parking lot for Tory's Cave is off Route 7 just 1.3 miles passed the gas station. It's a dirt parking lot at an old quarry construction site. To the left is the trail marked with a blue/yellow blaze.
The footpath leads you UPHILL to Tory's Cave which is about 100 yards into the woods. The cave is a popular place and in the winter boasts some wonderful ice formations.
Signs identify this as the WeanTinoge Heritage Nature Preserve. Storms and rough winters have taken a toll on this area and there are many downed trees but it still is a nice place to wander around.
After passing Tory’s cave on the left, continue on the blue/yellow trail UP the mountain. Walk about 1/4 mile on the path UPHILL to the tree with three blazes indicating the split in the trail.
Take the trail to the left and walk 10 steps (5 paces). Behind the small to medium size boulder to your left you will find the Gone Batty letterbox.
Retrace your steps back to your car or feel free to explore.
