We're placing this box to commemorate our wedding and honeymoon in 2009. We came to Chincoteague Island to honeymoon, in "The Time Before Letterboxing." This being the occasion of our 10th anniversary, we decided to return to Chincoteague and Assateague to revisit the islands and our equine friends. Having discovered letterboxing and other great activities since we were last here, we decided to leave a little something for others to share in the enjoyment we find in this special place.

The images Mr RFD chose (the stamp is double-sided for double the fun!) has our initials one one side, On the other side is the symbol of two rings, each given to the other. A ring, particularly a wedding ring, is a symbol of love that has no end, only infinite beginnings.

To find the treasure you seek, park in the lot for the Island Nature Trail, located midway on Hallie Whealton Smith Drive, between Main Street (your nearby major landmark is the High School) and Pension Street. The Elementary School is nearby on Hallie Whealton Smith Drive.

Park in the lot (next to the dog park) and walk through the uprights (where the kiosk and trash can are) into the paved path just off the parking area, NOT the marked wooded area diagonally across the street. The path almost immediately bifurcates so as to loop around a marsh; follow the right branch to find what you seek. You will walk just over a tenth of a mile, passing a bench with a view of the marsh on your left, until you reach a wooden bridge. The bridge flows over calm water, feeding the marsh.

The treasure you seek is located under the right upright on the nearmost side of the bridge, tucked up on wooden cross-bars.

Enjoy your time here and our little enjoyment we left for you.
