This series includes several examples of stage and close-up magic tricks that have entertained audiences for years. Some famous magicians include Harry Houdini, Penn & Teller and David Copperfield, who was the inspiration for this series since it is located on the Copperfield Nature Trail. The log is in the last box.

Directions:
Go north on I35 & exit 244 toward Yager Ln, right on Tech Ridge Blvd for 0.2 mi, right on E Yager Ln for 1.2 mi, then right into Copperfield Neighborhood Park.

Box 1: Spoon Bending
This is the apparent deformation of a spoon with less force than would normally seem necessary. It is a common form of stage magic, and a variety of methods are used to produce the illusion. Find this spoon by walking on either gravel trail past the playground to where they converge at start of the Copperfield Nature Trail. Continue on this dirt trail 35 steps then left off trail 10 steps to cedar tree between two larger ones. LB is at back base under rocks & needles.

Box 2: Disappearing Coin
This close-up trick involves the manipulation of a coin in front of a single spectator or small audience using gimmicks or sleight of hand and misdirection. Hopefully the stamp of this coin won't disappear like its namesake. Continue on trail past "Scoop Poop" sign on left at a jct to a trail marker on left at another jct. Go right 25 steps then left at jct for 35 steps on trail along creek. Go left off trail 3 steps to large cedar tree with LB at back base under large rock & needles.

Box 3: Hat-trick
This is a classic magic trick where a performer will produce an object (traditionally a rabbit or a bouquet of flowers) out of an apparently empty top hat. This stamp will appear out of a box if you continue on this trail along creek until it rejoins main trail. Go right on it as it crosses dry creek bed then bends right 23 steps to small path on right. Go left off trail 16 steps to large 2-trunk oak tree with LB at back base under sticks & leaves.

Box 4: Cut & Restore Rope
This is a magic effect in which the performer cuts a piece of rope, usually tied into a knot, which then appears to be magically restored. Continue on trail as it soon follows creek and crosses a side creek on a small bridge. Pass a "Scoop Poop" sign on left and stop at 4' cedar log laying along left side of trail just before an overlook of the creek on the right. Go behind it 12 steps to medium oak tree next to two cedars. LB is at back base next to dead branch coming off the trunk and under sticks & leaves.

Box 5: Sawing Woman in Half
This is a generic name for a number of stage magic tricks in which a person (traditionally a female assistant) is apparently sawn or divided into two or more pieces. Continue on trail as it goes along Shropshire Blvd on left and then crosses it to sign saying Walnut Creek Greenbelt & Copperfield Nature Trail. Go left a short way on other side of road, then right to continue on the trail. Pass Penney Lane sign & a bench and stop at second bench. Walk behind it 8 steps to small oak tree with barbed-wire post next to it. LB is at back base under a rock & leaves.

Box 6: Card Manipulation
This is the branch of magical illusion that deals with creating effects using sleight of hand techniques involving playing cards. Continue on trail as it winds down to creek and crosses it on a big new bridge. Continue about 0.25 mi as trail bends right and follows the creek to large cement pipe 12 steps off trail on right. LB is behind the oak tree to its right under rocks & leaves.
