Difficulty: Moderate
Distance to Letterbox: 7.7 miles RT

The Little Lakes Basin hike is EXCELLENT. Fairly easy trail, great alpine lakes, mountain views, streams. Only issue is that it can get crowded, so go early. The end of the trail is Gem Lakes. This box is at the end of the trail at Gem Lakes.

Directions:
From Hwy 395 at Toms Place, go south on Rock Creek Road for 10.5 miles to the Mosquito Flats parking area at the end of the road (the last 1.25 miles of road is single lane with pullouts).

To the Letterbox:
To to end of parking and trailhead sign. Walk trail for .5 miles to Jct. Go left (not to Morgan Pass). Continue up then down to Mack Lake on left. Then on to Marsh Lake at 1 mile. Continue on to Heart Lake at 1.3 miles. Pass Box lake, cross Pyramid creek at 1.9 miles then reach Long Lake on the right. Climb from far end of lake for .7 miles to trail junction sign for Chicken Foot Lake. Go right and continue to stream crossing, and soon trail junction to Morgan Pass/Gem Lakes. From the sign, go back on trail for 5 steps, then left for 10 steps to large split rock. Box is in the split, far end near pine tree, under a 6inch rock.

Hike length: 5-8 miles
