Welcome to the Union Country Extension Master Gardener Volunteers letterbox!
As part of the NC State Cooperative Extension program, the mission of the Union County Extension Master Gardener Volunteers is to foster a partnership to create a sustainable community through education and implementation.
What that really means is ... we are here to help, as well as teach, our community about good gardening practices, composting, integrated pest management, and home grown food production, just to name a few.
We would love to have you join us as a Certified Master Gardener. The training is thorough and professionally implemented. No prior training or formal education in the field is required.
This letterbox was a labor of love for the Union County Heritage Festival Committee. One of our very own UCEMG in training created the beautiful journal and we worked hard to plant the box in our Teaching Garden.
From 74 East drive through Monroe to the Union County Agricultural Center. Turn right into the Agricultural Center and park behind the building. You will see a greenhouse on the right side of the building. Walk to the gravel driveway by the greenhouse. You will see "The Teaching Garden" sign. Please stop and enjoy the beautiful butterflies that always greet all visitors coming to the gardens. Walk towards the side of the greenhouse. You should see a park bench with a mailbox. Walk past the pink birdhouse near the Red Oxalis aka Windowbox Woodsorrel. Continue down the trail where you should see another park bench and The Heritage Trail. Continue down the path, notice the lovely stepping stones to your left. Look for a tree that is truly a piece of art! Enjoy the gardens and happy hunting!
