This box was originally planted as a temporary box at the 2015 "Fall Into Fun" event in Illinois. It is now a permanent plant in Arizona.

Location: Take Highway 180 out of Flagstaff, then turn right on Snowbowl Road. Drive up approximately 5.3 miles to a trail parking lot on the left (as the road curves right). This is appropriately known as “Aspen Corner” and beautifully showcases Fall color.

Distance/Terrain: Just under 1 mile roundtrip. A fairly easy walk on sandy/dirt trail with about 150 feet of ascent/descent.

NOTE: You can combine the hunt for this box with the hunt for “Fall’s Guardian”. See the notes at the end of this clue.

Park your car in the Aspen Corner lot and go through one of the fence openings. Follow the main trail to the right and make your way down the trail until you reach the intersection with the Arizona Trail (AZT Mile 602.3). From the intersection continue straight for ~ 55 steps. Follow the barkless tree on your right to its root end. You’ll notice it has a fallen aspen neighbor that will not be contributing to future bounties. The box you seek is nested in the roots of the aspen, towards the left.

Replace the box well and retrace your steps to return OR when you reach the AZT intersection, turn right and walk along the AZT for about 0.1 miles until you reach an unofficial intersection, just before an aspen and a large boulder on the left and a trio of aspen on the right. This is the intersection referenced in the “Fall’s Guardian” clues. After finding that box, you can return by going up the rather steep unofficial path or by retracing your steps the way you came.

If you hunt for this box, we'd appreciate an email message to let us know how the box is doing. Thanks!
