Terrain Difficulty: Easy (flat, 200 yards RT)
Status: alive
I recently read the book Weird Texas by Wesley Treat, and it contained many interesting stories about places in Texas worth visiting, including the Legend of Hairy Man Road, a road named after a very large, hairy man supposedly seen lurking in bushes along it. You can look for him while finding this letterbox near Shirley McDonald Park.
Directions:
From I35, go west on Sam Bass Rd for 1.6 mi then turn left on Hairy Man Rd for 1.8 mi to parking for Shirley McDonald Park on the left, just after crossing Great Oaks Dr where road changes name to Brushy Creek Rd.
Clues:
Walk left on Brushy Creek Trail, crossing Great Oaks Dr and following Hairy Man Rd, to sign on left about the Hairy Man legend. Go right off trail 10 steps to V-cedar tree with LB at back base under rocks & leaves. Please be discreet & replace as described.
Hike length: 0.1 miles
