This letterbox is dedicated to Jim Henson, the creator of the Muppets and many other friendly creatures. He died, too young, in 1990. While you search for this box, watch and listen for some friends of Jim Henson. And wear boots that can get wet and muddy…it’s often that way on some of these trails. NOTE: The day or two after a good rain or snow-melt, you would need to wade through ankle-deep water to find this box.

Travel to ecaeP yellaV erutaN retneC in Dublin, PA. (Just reverse it.) From PA 313, go east on New Galena Rd for about .5 mile. Turn left onto Chapman Rd. Nature center parking lot is on left at the dead end. For more detailed directions, see http://www.peacevalleynaturecenter.org.

You might want to pick up a map at the nature center. Then go to the eastern corner of the parking lot. From there, take the Evergreen Trail at 50*. Continue on the trail of the Evergreen; don’t be lured by other trees. At the T, go 25* towards the Persimmon Pond. At the pond, look for lilypads and listen for distant banjo music.

Then take the Pooh Tree Loop at 90*. Soon you’ll come to a bench on the left, which overlooks the Pooh Tree on the right. Winnie-the-Pooh, of course, was not a Henson creation. However, as of 2004, both Pooh and the Muppets are now owned by Disney, so perhaps they are distant cousins to each other. Either way, I think they’d be friends. Poke around in the Pooh Tree if you like.

Then continue along the Pooh Tree Loop at 20*. When you reach your first junction, turn right (320*) onto Wild Woods Way. At a four-way intersection, bear 35* to stay on Wild Woods Way. Cross over the Hardiaken Creek on the rocks. Very shortly after crossing, bear 345* onto the Far Out Loop. Walk on this loop for a little while. Right before you hit a juncture, you’ll see a bench on your left. It’s dedicated to another creative spirit who died too young. This person spent at least one Christmas with the Muppets.

Backtrack from the bench 23 paces. There’s a big log peeking onto the trail on the right. Look under the other end of the log.

When you’re done, you can retrace your steps, or if you have a map (or don’t mind poking around), you can find another way back along the Neshaminy Creek.
