Johnstone Road will take you to this tiny park, down a steep trail. Or you could arrive by boat!
To find this letterbox, follow the trail to the beach! Twisty, isn't it! The first turn in the path leads you to a giant rootball of a large downed tree. Too easy. Keep going. Another switchback, a bench perhaps! No, another switchback. Thank goodness it is all downhill! Another switchback - oh, look, a little house of necessity! If you have reached the wooden steps you have gone too far!
Just past the wee house, look for the boulder with the dedication plaque, and discover what year the park was dedicated. It doesn't help you find the cache, but it is interesting. Were you alive then?
After you read the dedication, make a 180 degree turn, and make your way into the underbrush about 15 paces West of the path towards a large boulder, taller than my waist.
If you have followed the instructions correctly, you should find yourself standing at the hiding spot. Find the Letterbox nestled at the foot of the boulder..
Along with the log, pencil, and swag for trading, inside the container you will find the usual letterboxing kit so please stamp your book. Do not remove the stamp. When you have finished, please make sure the cache in well hidden.
Congratulations! You’re now a letterboxer! Note: you can also just sign the log, or bring any stamp you like to add a little colour to the page!
In 1910 the paddle wheelers plied Kootenay lake from Nelson all the way up to the Lardeau. From this vantage point happy picnickers could look across at the CPR Transfer Wharf and the old Shipyards. The SS Nelson itself was built there in 1891. This beach was a popular spot for young folk to paddle over to for shenanigans!
