Where are the Clowns?
Ft. Steilacoom Park, Lakewood, WA

Normally, my friends, clowns are a happy lot. Normally, the story told about clowns is a happy story. In this instance, neither the story nor the clowns are happy. You see, it is my duty to inform you that the four clowns known as ‘Fro, Jolly, Feets and Weepy, are lost; a most unfortunate situation.

One day, about four or five weeks ago, these four friends were on their way from Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey’s Clown Symposium to parts unknown. As they wandered through the state of Washington, in a county called Pierce, near a city called Lakewood, with a Fort called Steilacoom, they were looking forward to a restful evening at home upon their successful completion of their journey. Alas, my friends, it was not to be. For you see, while wandering through the woods of this Fort called Steilacoom, they became separated and lost.

I beg of you to find them and bring them back together, for they are inconsolable separated, and one would not wish such dear, dear friends to remain this way. This is what we know:

In the woods of the Fort, known as Steilacoom, resides a large lake. Find a convenient parking spot and head towards this lake. As you come down the path to a place of many choices, turn left and follow the path. Continue until you see a gravel road heading to the left. Follow the gravel road. When this gravel road crosses another gravel road, go right on the path between the fallen columns. All we know is left is not. Search the base for the first clown, ‘Fro.

When you have found ‘Fro, take an image of him with you and head towards the lake back to the road. At the junction of this gravel road and the main road, go right 15 paces. You’ll be surprised at how close Jolly is to where ‘Fro was. Take an image of Jolly with you. You have now reunited two of the clowns!

From where you stand, face the lake and go counterclockwise. As you travel this road, if the watch was a clock, you want to take the gravel road at approximately 10 o’clock. Two stone obelisks guide you on the correct path. Climb until you see the high power tension lines crossing you. Look left and spy “blue”. Therein you will find the most sorrowful clown, Weepy. Reunite him with his friends quickly for there are many ants about!

Return to the trail and the same direction you were heading. You have but one clown left to reunite! At the intersection, turn left. Proceed to a second intersection and head left. Proceed until you can see the lake again and take the trail to the right. Follow this trail, carefully and quietly, until you come to a canopy of trees over the trail. Look to the right, beneath the upper trail, and there you will find Feets the Clown ready to be reunited!

I apologize for being so vague. However, we do not wish the wrong elements to find these clowns for there are many people in the world who would stoop so low as to keep these clowns separated from one another. We feel, dear reader, that only the most valiant and light-hearted people will be able to decipher these ramblings and reunite these clowns.
