Terrain Difficulty: Easy (flat, 40 yards RT)
Status: alive
I recently read the book Weird Texas by Wesley Treat, and it contained many interesting stories about places in Texas worth visiting, including the gravestone of Madge Ward. Dr. Madge Ward lived a grand life and always there was music and a keyboard at her fingertips. She taught piano in Tyler public schools and entertained throughout her life at hotels, resorts, dinner clubs, and cruise ships all over the world. It was her desire to have a grand piano mausoleum as her gravesite marker and after some deliberation with city and cemetery officials, permission was granted. You can see her granite grand at Rose Hill Cemetery, where this box is also located.
Directions:
From S Broadway Ave go east on Troup Hwy for 0.2 mi, right on S Donnybrook Ave for 0.2 mi, then right into Rose Hill Cemetery and park near piano grave of Madge Ward on left.
Clues:
Facing her grave, turn around and walk across road to Pyron grave, then Holmsley grave behind it. From left side continue two steps to a crepe myrtle tree. LB is within trunks under leaves.
Hike length: 0.1 miles
