Welcome to Fairview Farm Wildlife Preserve, home of Raritan Headwaters (a non-profit watershed association). To find the Kestrel Meadow letterbox:
- Begin at the brick cottage
- Stand at the sycamore tree near the patio at the back of the brick cottage.
- With your back to the cottage, you'll see a line of evergreen trees (spruce trees on the right, a tall american red cedar to the left). Walk 23 paces toward these trees (if you have a compass: head toward 330 degrees NNW).
- You will find yourself at the beginning of a trail - walk along the trail until you come to your first intersection. You will see a very slanty cedar stake with a faded red blaze (paint) on it.
- Take the trail to the left (west) and walk 135 paces into the next meadow. Say hello to the white birch on your right, and the very tall American Kestrel nestbox on your left!
- Find the sign that teaches about meadows (bonus points: read it!).
- Turn to your right (north) and find the plaque dedicated to Charles A. Louria.
- Exactly opposite of Charles A. Louria, look low to the ground. You will find the blue letterbox!
