In search of the "LOST TRAIL".... (For the ultimate search, bring a mountain bike or hiking gear. You'll probably want to do more than just find the letterbox!) Take I-64 to Exit 11....Go South away from town on Route 10. Look at your odometer and note the milage. Proceed South about 3.8 miles through the ghost town. (Highway expansion is coming soon) Look for a brown sign and turn right on Hughes Branch. Proceed 4 miles then over a big hill with some serious hairpin turns. Drive carefully. About 2 miles later you'll come to a Stop Sign. Turn Left and proceed to the Brown Sign with a Blue Heron. Start watching the fields for deer. One mile ahead, turn right into the park. Pass the (usually empty) guard shack. Pass two brown buildings on your left and turn left at Moxley Branch and cross the bridge over the lake. (This section is blocked when the lake level is down, but foot and bike traffic are okay.) Turn right and proceed to the brown building. (It's okay to park near any of the buildings for a short visit.) Proceed due South past campsite #35 to the trail into the woods. Cross the First Wooden Bridge and follow the trail. At the Second Wooden Bridge, take the trail going North/NorthWest about 106 paces (two steps to a pace) to a big square boulder a few feet South of the trail. At a bearing of 230 degrees scramble up the bank to a mossy rock about 5 paces up the hill just to the right of a 4 inch dead tree. Under the rock, look in an opening to the East bottom corner. The "LOST TRAIL" box is in this opening under some loose flat rocks. Please re-hide the box well. This box is now registered as an official Geocache site with the WV State Parks. Feel free to trade for any small items in the box except of course the rubber stamp.

Now tighten your boot laces or get on your mountain bike and enjoy Lost Trail and Mary Davis Trail...some of the best trails around the area.

BONUS! To find the "GREAT BLUE HERON" box by water access (May-November), you can put in at the boat ramp (powered 10HP limit) 1 mile West of the Guard Shack and proceed along the channel 7 miles to the Marina and follow the clues from there. By the roads it's about 20 miles away! Oh those West Virginia hills......
