This letterbox has been retired. Fire ants have taken over the location and I do not want anyone near it.
---
The Cold War Submarine Memorial is located at the entrance to Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant. Mt. Pleasant is located across the harbor from downtown Charleston. From US-17N toward Mt. Pleasant go over the Pearlman Bridge. Stay straight to go onto W. Coleman Blvd. Turn right onto Patriot's Point Road. The entrance for the Cold War Submarine Memorial is on the left directly across from the "Welcome to Patriot's Point" sign.
Park in the provided lot. Walk to the flag pole. Take the SW path. Follow the pathway around the Submarine Memorial, stopping to read the memorials encircling the submarine.
Stop at the memorial marker to the USS Thresher & USS Scorpion. With your back to the marker take 12 paces to a small tree.
Turn 45° to the left. You will see a Large tree with a hole in the trunk about 3 feet above the ground.
The rest is up to you.
No ink pad or pencil is provided.
