My ancestor was known as John Henry’s villain
But I go through tunnels instead of making them.
I was vital in California history,
Born in 1896, my death date’s a mystery.
I’m strong as a Clydesdale and have a sharp whistle,
My bed is lined with foxtail and thistle.
Look for Fostoria and the Brook that is Green,
Head for the bridge, nestled between.
Be sure to read the plaque about young Will Manning,
Who played as a boy, right where you are standing.
If you’re facing the plaque, to the right and behind
In the southeast corner, my memory you’ll find.
Kneel down by the metal brackets, be careful not to fall,
(but if something happens, you’re near San Ramon hospital!)
Reach down to the metal that shares my name
Magnets hold me tightly to the frame.
