Rated: Moderate >1/4 mile. Not stroller-friendly. Very small children may have difficulty.
Don't forget DEET bug spray if the season calls for it!
Begin your trek at the home of the Broncos. Park by the gymnasium. Walk along the fence between the rink and the field. You will pass through a gate which may be opened or closed; depending on what's going on that day. When you reach the end of the fence, you will need to unravel the meaning of the lines below.
Be careful not to
Take a spill
While walking down
The little hill
On your left
You must look
For the trail here
It makes a hook
Down a ways
Right and over a mound
A village here
Can be found
Proud and tall
It once stood
Now all that is left
Is burlap and wood
Fix your eyes now
Towards the river
This will be
Your direction giver
Follow its flow
Till a fence you meet
Now it is time
To count your feet
Forty good steps
On the path you’ll be
Beneath the boughs
Of an evergreen tree
Facing again
Towards the river
Look for the fireplace
You must go hither
Looking left
160 degrees
You'll spot a pair
Of sister trees
Behind this pair
And underneath
You'll find the treasure
That you seek!
Please replace the box as you found it. Take your time to examine the replica of a Nipmuc village that you have just walked through. Its construction was started as a way for students to get some hands-on experience in history. Every fall, one can walk down to the village to see students building shelters and living as the Nipmuc people did long ago. There is doubt regarding this project’s continuance in the coming years but there is no doubt that the Bronco Pride will live on with those who raised the village.
