Waterfalls Seven--Long dirt road in and very icy along cliff trail. People with young children don't try this trail.
Spruce Brook Falls
Directions
Trail Head Directions
Head to South Main Street in Beacon Falls, off exit 24 on Route 8. Go north to Iron bridge over Naguatuck river (Depot Street). Immediately after bridge, turn right onto Lopus road and go over railroad bridge. Immediately after railroad turn right onto Cold Spring Road. Follow Cold Spring Road. It will turn into a narrow dirt road and parallel the railroad tracks. Road will fork , Continue to right down hill and cross a bridge next to railroad tracks. Park your car. Trail starts on other side of brook from parking area.
Hiking Directions
The trail starts at the bridge over Spruce Brook, from the south bank. The trail is not very difficult. It proceeds up parallel to the brook with spectacular views of the brook below you. After about a 10 minute walk you will come to the falls. Be sure to continue along the trail further. There are many other smaller falls, cascades and pools.
Clues
Continue along the brook after the main falls until you reach a Y in the trail. A blue trail goes off to the left. Take the blue trail up the hill. The Spruce Brook Falls letterbox is in the base of a large tree with a blue blaze on it on the right of the trail. I think it was 50 steps from the Y intersection. Or 10 steps after a twisty tree. Enjoy the falls.
