Number Of Boxes 3
Rating About 1.5 Miles

(Don't Forget To Bring The Clues For The Golden Hill Trail.)

Directions: At the intersection of 101 and 169 in Pomfret Center turn onto 169 north. Then go about .5 of a mile up and take a right onto Day Rd. Travel all the way to the end of Day Rd., you will come to a stop sign. Take a right onto Needles Eye Rd. Go up towards the stop sign. On the left you will notice a white sanctuary sign that says "Connecticut Audubon Society's Bafflin Sanctuary" and room enough to park a few cars on the grass.
From the stop sign cross the street. There will be a white sign saying Walking Trail. This is the entrance for Golden Hill Trail. Go into the field and go to your left. Follow the trail all the way down the edge of the field. Eventually the trail will bend to the right, before the private driveway and you will go up a hill. (in the fall notice all the golden leaves on the trees. There is no question why they call this the Golden Hill Trail). Half way up the hill on your left you will notice a tree cut in half with 2 sisters growing out of it. (at this point turn around and look off at the beautiful farm house. The view is worth the walk).Keep going as the trail turns right following the stone wall around the field. You will see the trail enter the woods at the break in the wall. The trees are marked with dark blue blazes. After a short walk you will see some rocks on your left with three big trees near them. Go to the third and furthest big tree, on the right side of the third tree are some rocks all together in the middle of these rocks and behind a stone door is box #1. Continue on and you will see a trail going off to the right, but you keep going straight. Keep going and you will see some rocks on your left, keep going a little more down a small hill and you will come to some ledge and rocks on both sides of the trail. You will see a small split rock on the left edge of the trail with 2 trees right after it and a rotted fallen tree just in front of it. Stop and take a reading of 110 degrees from the split rock and walk 8 steps over to another set of split rocks with a tree growing above them. In these rocks behind a stone door is box #2. Now keep going on the trail for awhile and you will cross over a stream on a bridge made of stone. Keep going until you come to a small broken down stone wall.(Don't go through it) take a reading of 270 degrees and walk down this wall until it comes to a corner with another broken down wall. In the corner, on top of the wall and under a flat rock is box #3. Now just continue on the trail the way you were going for awhile and you will come to a T. Turn left here and follow it all the way back to the field and your car. The NeeDeeps
