Welcome to the ORIGINAL Hollywood!

The subdivision outside Chicago known as Hollywood dates back to 1893
when Samuel Gross, who marketed lots to the Chicago Columbian Exposition
visitors, developed it.

In 1987, the Hollywood Citizens Association and representatives from
other communities sharing the Hollywood name defeated the efforts of
Hollywood, California to copyright the name for its exclusive use.
It was confirmed at that time that Hollywood, Illinois predates Hollywood,
California and may be the inspiration for its name. It is believed
Mrs. Daeida Wilcox selected the name after she met on a train Mrs.
Mary Peck whose summer home was located in the area called Hollywood.

In 1910, the residents of Hollywood, California voted to annex to the
growing city of Los Angeles. Today, Hollywood is a community within the
City of Los Angeles.

Likewise, Hollywood, Illinois is no longer a village onto itself, but
has been incorporated into the communities of Brookfield, Riverside, and
Lyons.
