The State Botanical Garden of Georgia is located in Athens, one mile from U.S. Route 441 south, and approximately three miles from the University of Georgia campus. It is attraction #52 on the Convention & Visitors Bureau map.

The State Botanical Garden is a 313-acre preserve that features eleven botanical and horticultural gardens as well as trails that pass through wetlands, floodplains, slopes, and upland plateaus. The State Botanical Garden is a beautiful place to picnic, hike, watch wildlife, or learn about a diversity of plants. I particularly like the orchid garden, the threatened species garden, and the herb garden. Don’t miss Clute’s Kugel either. The State Botanical Garden is free—and open to donations.
