Chris the Crab fell in love with this spot and is hiding out hoping a letterboxer will come and play!!

Find this state wayside located between Depoe Bay and Otter Rock on Hwy 101. The Lookout is perched atop a cliff 500 feet above sea level and from the gift shop’s window you can see the crashing surf along the shore, sea birds nesting on the rocks, sea lions basking in the sun, fleets of fishing boats, and ocean liners. Whale watching, unbelievable sunsets, and the peaceful calm which follows the violence of a sudden storm can be experienced from here.

British navigator Captain James Cook discovered and named Cape Foulweather in 1778 It was the first sight of the mainland of North America on the Pacific Coast, and a sudden storm at the time of the discovery almost put an end to his historical expedition. The fierceness of the storm is reflected by the name he gave this rugged landmark - Cape Foulweather.

Clues: Drive into the Lookout Observatory and Gift Shop parking area. Take the path down to the gift shop below. The view from their viewing windows is really cool!! Meander back outside to the ancient “sitter” and cop a squat to enjoy the view (I truly hope the weather is as beautiful as it was for me when I planted this box). Look to the left, looking for the fork in a tree at the fork of the trail. On the downhill side of the base of the tree is a wood chunk that looks like a place a crab would like to hide. Careful he doesn't pinch ya!! He's feisty!!
