Heritage Mother's Day Letterbox
Directions:
From the Sagamore Bridge, take exit #1 to route 6A east. After 1.4 miles turn right onto route 130. Pine Street will be another 1.0 mile on the right. Follow to end of street, Heritage Musuems and Gardens is on the left. The park is open Mon to Sat 9-6 pm and Sun 12-6 pm. (only open until 4 pm in off-season and closed Mon and Tue) Admission is 12.00 for adults, 6.00 for children. There are thousands of rhododendrens in bloom from the middle of May through June. You can ride the old-fashioned carousel as many times as you like and the antique car museum is very cool. We visit Heritage every year on Mother's Day since mothers get in free!
Get a map of the park when you go in. You will need to locate the labyrinth. Look for the labyrinth sign at the entrance to it and make note of how many "circuits" this type of labyrinth has. To the right of the labyrinth entrance is a path that winds down behind it. Stay on this path, heading towards Shawme Lake. The path will veer to the right along the lakeshore. Look for the first set of steps on your right leading upwards. Pass by the steps and keep an eye out on your left for a little sign close to the ground that bears the quote "Flowers grow out of dark moments" by Corita Kent. Standing at this quote take as many giant steps forward as there are circuits in the labyrinth. Hidden in the pile of rocks on the right of the trail you will find the Heritage letterbox. (If you come to the second set of steps on the right you have gone too far.)
Be sure to enjoy the rest of the beautiful gardens!
