One would expect to find this lovely old bridge spanning, what else? Horse Creek! But no... you will traverse Myrtle Creek when you cross this bridge. Originally built in 1930 on Horse Creek Road near McKenzie Bridge in Lane County, this 105 foot bridge was sold as salvage to the City of Cottage Grove in 1987. This town used some of the timbers to build a small replica in one of their parks and then sold the rest to the town of Myrtle Creek in 1990. Volunteers labor and local contributors, whose names can be seen on the interior roofing, saved this historic landmark for all to see.

It was difficult to find a really good hiding place in this area. As a result, it is imperative that you try to rehide this box totally out of sight and as well camouflaged as possible. Many people use this park daily and I fear for the longevity of the box.

To the Trailhead: Exit I-5 at Myrtle Creek and head downtown to Mill Site Park.

To the Letterbox: Stand in the middle of the span, gigantic X’s right and left. Find the young quartet at 50 degrees magnetic. From them walk 70 steps to a fellow of blueish hue. From this point, go 40 steps at 40 degrees to a cluster of four that becomes three. Beneath a retainer that now reclines, the letterbox hides in a woody crevice behind sticks and leaves.
