Originally placed by Ghostcrabs and adopted in May 2008 by Leabhar.

Direction: Take I-64 to the Ft. Eustis exit. Head north on Jefferson Ave (Hwy 143). The entrance to the park is just a few blocks away.

Thanks to the dozens of Letterboxers from around the country who filled the first book. We placed another booklet there for you to fill. Go get em!

The walk for this box is fairly easy. No steep hills, and the hike is only about 20 minutes. Strollers can easily make this trek. We recommend that you bring bug repellant, and water for the hot summer days ahead of us all. Have fun, and Happy Trails!

Clues: Park at the Discovery Center. (You may want to stop at the main office for a park map). Locate the 'Nature Trail' sign to the left of the building, and cross the wooden foot bridge. At the 'White Oak Trail' sign turn right, and proceed up the dirt path. Shortly, you will cross 20 small logs laying over the path. Continue on the trail until you come to another small wooden bridge that leads you accross the tar road. Cross the road (Watch for cars), and continue on the path. You will pass a long foot bridge on your right. Continue on the dirt path veering left until you come to an observation deck overlooking the water. Pretty ain't it? There's a park bench right next to the path, as well as an information plaque reguarding 'Berdan's Sharpshooters'.

To the left of this plaque is a small trail. Follow it up and over the ditch. After about 20 paces look to your right for a small stump. Inside the stump is the Newport News Park Letterbox. MAKE SURE YOU POKE AROUND INSIDE THE STUMP FIRST TO SCARE ANY CRITTERS AWAY. Find it? Yeah!
