Easy
Drive-up

Placed together by NJ Carole, Katze 21539 and Hoppy

The view from High Point Monument, at 1,803 feet above sea level, is spectacular! A panorama of rich farmland and forest, soft hills and lush valleys in New Jersey, New York & Pennsylvania. The land for High Point State Park, donated by Colonel Anthony R. and Susie Dryden Kuser, was dedicated as a park in 1923.

Route 23 to High Point State Park in Northern Sussex County.

Go past the historic Gate House on your left,
Then through the pay station and turn right,
On the scenic Drive for only 0.3 miles to a turnoff on the right
(Be careful this turnoff has a bit of a drop off)

As you get out of the car look back from whence you came,
And look for rocks to the left for that is where you need to go.
Climb the natural stairs built for a giant

Admire the view ahead of you,
Follow 2 rocks on top of the stone plateau
Next to an oak bush and look below
(Watch out for wildlife – please move slow)

What you seek shall be in the shade,
Underneath rocks and in a crack
A box and stamp not by nature made,
Please be careful when you put it back!

(In warm weather, please check first
to be sure no one else is in the shade for a rest)!

After you find the box, continue on to the monument for more beautiful views. Depending on the season you can also enjoy swimming, picnicking, hiking or cross-country skiing. There is also a museum. Enjoy your time here!
