A fitting place to start your quest,
The way begins at the subject of Lowell’s famous poem, heading west.

A bicycle may be the best mode of travel
Parking a car will prove to be a hassle.

Follow the path for a mile and a quarter
If there were access from Cliff Road the walk would be shorter.

Look for the sign for a dangerous curve
To the right, a road slopes down steeply. Don’t lose your nerve!

The road is humble, not at all swank.
You’ll know you’re on the right track by the sign of the “bank.”

Conserve your energy for a walk in the wild
To where Nantucket’s heritage has been exiled.

Mark 37 paces from the piney gate
You’re getting closer to your fate.

Old Sherburne town is straight ahead,
But turn you must, to find the dead.

A trail used by deer and hare
Wends its way to rutted road. You’re almost there!

At hillock’s crest, a grave sight shall you see.
Stop and remember Coffin, Gardner and Macy.

Now, backwards and onward are one and the same.
The setting sun will lead you west, from whence you came.

At trail’s end a starboard tack,
With the pond on your left you’re on the right track.

Six score and four paces to find what you seek.
Beneath the right twin, take a peek.
