Title: Fly Guy at Borderlands

Location: State: MA County: Norfolk Town: Sharon

Planted by: Bill and Mr. Coon Date: April 7, 2004

Difficulty: Easy 15 or 20 minute stroll to the box along bridle paths
.

Background:
Mr. Bill and Mr. Coon were neighborhood chums as children and are now enjoying their second childhood doing retired guy stuff. We were walking around borderlands seeking letterboxes and geocaches and left this box as a momento. However, Mr. Coon, in true old guy fashion, misplaced his notes and forget to post the directions for two months. After checking to make sure the box was still there and having someone try out the directions here they are.

Driving directions:
Enter the park at the Massapaug Road entrance. There is a two dollar fee to park now but well worth it even in this cheapskate’s estimation.

Directions to the box:
From the Visitor’s center (restrooms are here) take a left and walk down the hill to the bridle path (the sign says to the lodge) that passes along the northern shore of the pond, passing the shelter ( the “lodge”) on your right and the intersections of the Westside trail and then the Northwest trail on your left until you arrive at the dam for the Upper Leach Pond. Turn right here, cross the stream, and head south along the straightaway. When the trail bends left there will be a shelter on your right from which to spy on the wildlife. The box is under the southernmost (SSW) corner of the shelter up on the sill formed by the beam that supports the front of the shelter. If you crouch down there beside the southern wall and reach up quietly right at the corner you may be able to get it even if the shelter is occupied.
In case you didn’t notice, at this time there are two letterbox series in the park, the Fairies of Borderland and the Kirby series.
