These letterboxes are hidden in the Fredericksburg Battlefield: Lee Drive.

Directions to park:

From I-95 take the Fredericksburg Exit onto Route 3 East. Stay on RT. 3 East until you reach the 7th traffic light. (At the 6th traffic light RT. 3 becomes the Blue & Gray Bypass.) At 7th traffic light make a right hand turn on to Lafayette Blvd. (It will be a "merge turn".) The park will be almost immediately on the left as you go up the hill. It is a left hand turn.

From here you will drive 2.5 miles into the park. At 2.5 miles you will cross a street into the other half of the park. Keep going! :o)
At about 1.5 miles you will see a "Battlefield Tour 3" sign. Notice all the fallen trees from Hurricane Isabel. Keep going! Finally you will come to the end of this park at 2 miles. You should see a parking lot on your right. Park here.

********Please note: This use to be a two box series, however, a furry little friend stole the second box. Hopefully I will be able to replace it -- someday.

Box #1: "I Love New York"

New York City is one of my favorite places to visit. If you haven't been there, go. :o)

From the parking lot, walk across the street towards the cannons. You will see a small set of stairs with a small monument on the left side that reads: "Jackson on the Field: Dec. 12-13, 1862". Directly up these stairs and to the left you will see a large compass. You will use this compass to help you discover the box.

Follow a path leading between Richmond and Massaponax Church. Walking in this direction should lead you to a path on the other side of the parking lot. As you enter this path you should see a sign on the right that reads: "Lee Drive Trail". Follow this trail. You will soon cross over a wooden footpath (bridge). After crossing the bridge, start counting the blue trail markers on the trees. (Trail Marker #3 is on a skinny tree to the right.) Path turns to the right and up an incline at Trail Marker #4—(this marker is slightly faded.)

At Trail Marker #6 you will pass through a tree “graveyard”. Many trees had to be cut to unblock the path. Keep walking.

When you reach Trail Marker #7 you should see Trail Marker #8 directly ahead on the path. Walk to Marker #8.

Standing, facing the marking on #8, look diagonally to your left. You should see two downed trees. Walk to these trees (they are old, and rotting). Where the two fallen trees cross you will find Box #2, under the bark.

Happy stamping!

Return to path and retrace your steps back to the parking lot.
