****REPORTED MISSING****

Tigers in East Texas - oh my!

This box is planted at the Tiger Creek Wildlife Refuge, an animal sanctuary which specializes in large cats, and specifically in - what else?? - tigers! This organization promotes the responsible, safe, and humane handling of large cats and takes in as many abandoned, retired, or confiscated animals as their facility will accomodate. Visit Tiger Creek and take the opportunity to see their collection of graceful and enigmatic residents. Every time I visit, I learn something new! And your visit will financially support the center!

Starting from Tyler, take Highway 14 North from Loop 323 in Tyler. You will cross over Interstate 20, pass by Tyler State Park (stop in there to catch the "My Heart Belongs In Texas" box), and continue 2.8 miles past Tyler State Park. Begin slowing down and watching for signs at 2.7 miles, since the signs are a bit hard to see and come up quickly. There will be signs on both sides of the road, but you will have to turn immediately when you see the signs, or continue up and turn around to come back to the road. Assuming you don't miss the road, you will turn right off of Highway 14 onto a gravel road. Continue down the gravel road until you come to the parking lot. Park and take a tour of the facility.

Now for the box! As you leave the presence of the great cats, look to your left. You will see several shaggy-headed green haired monsters. Find the gatekeeper monster. Now sneak up on it on the "quiet" side. As you get close, drop to your knees and carefully search beneath the monster's hair for the box. Careful! And if you carefully replace it, he will never know you were there!

NOTE: To find the box, you do not have to pay to go inside the facility; however, it would be really nice if you did and you would almost certainly learn a little something from the tour! You do, though, have to go during their business hours since the box is behind their locked gate. As of the time of placement, they are open daytime hours Mondays through Saturdays, except major holidays. To get their hours when you are ready to visit, check out their website: www.tigercreek.org
