Both boxes have been vandalized and pulled. I'm sorry. I will keep this clue page up, and will be recarving and rehiding and revising the clues as soon as I can. (11/15/2005)

This little series of boxes is based on my favorite books as a child. My grandmother is Swedish, and owned several of the Moomintroll books in the English translation. I was enchanted by them, and still am to this day. I still own several of the books, although they can be a bit difficult to find now.

Finnish author Tove Jansson created the Moomintrolls. You can find a great website which goes into quite a bit of detail on them at http://virtual.finland.fi/finfo/english/moomieng.html . In Finland there is even a Moomintroll themed amusement park! They seem to be quite big in Japan too, due to a series of cartoons that were based on Moomin stories.

The series, at this time, consists of two boxes and a hitchhiker. I hope to add more characters, but these three are my favorite. There is Snufkin (the hitchhiker) a wandering free-spirit who does not have a care in the world and is Moomin’s best friend. I have created boxes of Moomintroll, the lead character in the books. He’s a happy-go-lucky, pudgy little beast. And finally, my favorite character of all, Little My. She is a spitfire with a will of steel… a tough cookie with cool shoes.

OK, on with the clues…..

From Jamaica Pond, cross Perkins Street and walk for a few blocks along Jamaica Way. This park on your right is Olmstead Park. Near Parkwood Terrace (across the street) you will see a small path heading down the hill, near a no left turn sign. Take this path.

At the bottom of the hill go left, and continue bearing left until you see a HUGE downed tree. It's not far at all. Walk to the far left of this tree and look straight on. You'll see a smaller part of the tree directly ahead. Under this downed bit you'll find "Moomin."

Return to the trail and continue walking (over the downed tree). At the next T turn right, then take a quick left, passing a post with the graffiti "Life is only a dream" written on it. You'll see and hear a road to your right (pretend it is a quiet, peaceful rushing river!). When you see a bridge, stay left. (Don't cross it!) Soon you will see a pond straight on and slightly to your rigth.

Take a right, jumping over a small stream and continue on your way. Keep the pond on your left for a while... over a boardwalk, past the first set of stone stairs, until you reach the second set of stone stairs. Go up and straight on (not up the steep hill). At the fork, bear left and go down the hill. You will see the end of another set of stone staircases on your right. At this point, turn left... see that huge tree? Examine the base and you will find "Little My."

Continue back on the trail and it will all start to look familiar! You won't get lost... just follow the sounds of traffic.

This is actually a nice little part of park, and can be quiet when it's not rush hour. It is potentially sketchy at night, so use good judgement! Enjoy, and please let me know if you've found the boxes!!
