Clues – Moderately easy.
Trek – short and easy.
Kids and Dogs - Dogs on a leash are allowed on the hiking trails. Easy walk for kids, but leave the stroller in the car. This waterfront park has picnic tables if you continue on down the main path, and you can even put in a non-motorized boat if you like!

From June 28 through August 14, 2004, 32 intrepid folks bicycled across the United States, from Seattle to Washington D.C. They called it the Big Ride, and it’s to raise awareness and funds for the American Lung Association of Washington (more at www.bigride.org). One of our good friends was in this elite group, and she was carrying the name and story of my father, who is dying a horrible death from emphysema caused by smoking for 60 years. We wished our friend Godspeed on the morning of June 28, 2004, and then planted this box.

UPDATE August 18, 2006: You'd think once would be enough; but this same friend is cycling from Seattle to San Francisco on the Pacific Coast Big Ride. She will again carry my father's name, as his battle against lung disease ended last December. Once again, for every find logged during the ride (September 9-23, 2006), I will donate $10 to ALAW.

Clues:
Start at the King County park named after Justin of exposing-Janet’s-nipple in a wardrobe malfunction fame. Park in the small lot, and jump over the fire gate. Take the first path on your left (picking up a baggie for Fido if you need one), and continue to the clearing with the multi-headed maple. Take the path at 290°. Pass the charred remains of a cedar to the next clearing, where you are surrounded by ferns. You’ll see a cedar tree leaning on its maple friends. Wiggle yourself between the cedar and the maples and look at the lovely nooks and crannies at your feet. The intrepid rider is in one of them.

When you rehide, please make sure the box is not visible from the nooks and crannies on the other side!

Please let us know when you find it!
