Long “John” Letterbox

Take route 80 to exit 284 for Blakeslee, Pennsylvania. Go south on route 115 for a 2-3 miles. Take a left on Long Pond Road past all of the track offices to the entrance for the track. This is the famous “tunnel turn” (named for the tunnel that goes under the track). Read the sign and remember many racing greats. Go back to route 115 and go left and pass the NASCAR store. If so inclined (as we were) spend money. The entrance that you are looking for is just ahead on the left.

Welcome to Pocono International Raceway. Through these gates is a 2.5-mile tri-oval track, which has been associated with NASCAR racing since 1974. It hosts 2 NASCAR cup races every year, along with various other high-speed events. With some of the worlds’ most exciting drivers, a grandstand that seats 90,000 fans, and the longest john in the world at 1100 feet with 1000 stalls, attending a race at this track is a fun and exciting experience.

While you are in the quiet woods searching for your trophy, imagine the sound of lots of horsepower flying around the track and the roar of the crowds.

Begin your search at the far right gate post (facing the track). Walk 12 paces (count left foot only) at 286 degrees from the gate to a white pole.

Walk 13(count left foot only) paces at 308 degrees to the right corner of a large light colored boulder.

Walk 8 (count left foot only) paces due N from this corner, then stand on top of a medium sized boulder that is pink with white inclusions.

Turn to face 340 degrees.

Immediately below you is a smaller boulder covered by 4 small trees. In between them is what you seek, hidden under a dark red rock.

Please replace carefully to protect it from weather, curious animals, and race fans. Thank you.
