Truett-McConnell is a Southern Baptist College just east of Cleveland. These boxes were placed for an orienteering event where Mark was asked to speak to the group about letterboxing. Directions to the campus can be found at Mark's TMAC letterbox clues. There's a booth for security which has waved us through without stopping every time, but if they stop you just tell them you are there to look around and see the campus.
Box 1 - John 5:24 Letterbox
Last verified: March 2005
From the cross on the hill, take a compass sight of 52* and walk 116 paces (steps) to the water tower. From the north side of the tower, shoot 33* (assuming the tower doesn’t affect your compass) and go to a spot about 20 paces that direction, just where the hill begins to drop off. From there, take 86 paces at 92*, where you will arrive at a tree with 3 large trunks. The last leg of the search is 40 paces at 342*. The letterbox is hidden in the hollow at the base of a fairly large tree.
Box 2 - Jehovah Letterbox
Last verified: March 2005
From the backdoor of the chapel, walk to the picnic area next to a sign pointing towards the ball fields. You can see a small clearing behind a maintenance building. From the clearing there’s an opening into the trees that looks like a trailhead, and just past the end of this phony trailhead is a pile of bricks. The box is in the pile.
Box 3 - Texas Flood
Originally planted temporarily on the Truett-McConnell campus, this box was retired a few days after the event. It sat waiting for the ideal spot for a few months, and then Hikers and Hounds announced "The Battle of the Bands" in Newtown, PA. Perfect! Eventually he may return to GA, but for now he's part of that extensive series. See the clues at
