Directions to the Mad River Glen Ski Area on Route 17, Waitsfield, VT can be found at madriverglen.com.

From the MRG Ski Area parking lot, cross the street and walk past the white MRG sign. Then, pass under the big MRG sign on the yellow building.

Continue straight to the flag pole.

To the left, pass under the famous single chair life and follow the dirt road heading up the hill.

Continue on the dirt road. It will snake back and forth under the single chair life. You will pass under the chair lift for a total of four times.

Walk down the hill. Look left at the lovely waterfall.

After admiring the waterfall, turn around and go back up the rise from which you came down about 40 paces. On the right, close to the crest of the hill, there is a path less travelled. Take it.

Walk up the path about 115 paces. To the left is a huge moss covered boulder. To the right, follow the tiny path across the creek, and up the hill to the circular fire ring.

To the left of the fire ring, walk 10 paces to a decaying birch tree covered with mushroom stepping stones growing on it. The letterbox is at the base of this tree.
